The GOP Establishment Takes It On The Chin As Masturbation Loses In Delaware

I could buy a parrot and train it to say, ‘tax cuts,’ but at the end of the day, it’s still a parrot, not a conservative.
~ Delaware GOP chairman TOM ROSS
I was unable to vote in the Republican primary in Delaware yesterday because I am a registered Democrat, but have watched the cage match for Vice President Biden's old Senate seat with the glee of a Demolition Derby fan. That is until the results were in.

In a pattern that has repeated itself elsewhere in this wackadoodle election year, moderate Representative Mike Castle was expected to walk over the primary finish line and win easily in November. This is because Castle has been very good for Delaware during his nine-terms as a congressman and Delawareans, who have voted Democratic in recent statewide elections, are nevertheless ticket splitters, having once elected a governor and lieutenant governor from different parties.

But a funny thing happened on the way to November.

Tea Party darling Christine O'Donnell, defying the state and national GOP and bankrolled by a national Tea Party group, roared out of nowhere to tie Castle in the last pre-election polls. This despite O'Donnell being profoundly unqualified, having a Palin-like problem with the truth (lie about your lies) and some of the looniest ideas this side of Sharron Angel.

Among those ideas is that masturbating is unpatriotic.

At the end of the day, O'Donnell had beaten Castle by a comfortable 53-47 percent margin, which if nothing else shows that a majority of Delaware Republicans are as crazy as O'Donnell.
And the Republican establishment is in big trouble.
